CSR Central Asia has published the Communication on Progress – a report produced in line with the UN Global Compact – an international agreement between the United Nations and the business world.

In this document covering the 2015-2016 period, the Agency reaffirms its commitment to and support of Ten UN Global Compact principles on human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.

The organization shares the conviction that business practices based on universal principles, promote greater sustainability, justice, representativeness of the global market, and contribute to growing and prosperous societies.

According to Asel Arstanbekova, CSR Central Asia Managing Director: “Overcoming current challenges and considering the fact that sustainable development and CSR are emerging topics in Central Asia, we strive to ensure steady implementation of responsible practices and sustainable development initiatives in countries where we operate, in particular in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.”

Current report (Communication on Progress) covers operational activities of the Agency, as well as activities aimed at implementation of sustainable development principles within program activities and in partner organizations. The report contains information about the Agency, its values, ethical principles, partnerships, main directions of activities, description of measures in the following areas:

  • promotion of Global Compact principles and Sustainable Development Goals
  • labor relations
  • human rights
  • environmental protection
  • prevention of corruption

As well as strategic plans for implementation of UN Global Compact principles and Sustainable Development Goals.  The information provided in the report covers 14 out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Alia Kadralieva, CSR Central Asia Director for Kazakhstan: “As a Global Compact participant, our agency implements awareness building, advisory, and educational projects (activities) aimed at dissemination of 10 Global Compact principles and implementation of sustainability reporting guidelines (GRI), engaging all private sector, civil society, government, and media stakeholders in these processes.” 

The report demonstrates the desire of the Agency to follow international standards in all areas of performance and indicates its intention to actively pursue projects in the field of social, environmental and economic impact and effectiveness.

The report is a stand-alone document prepared in Russian language and is part of the information sharing system for stakeholders.

The report has been submitted to UN Global Compact website, posted on CSR Central Asia Agency’s site, and accessible for all interested parties, as the part of the bi-annual requirement for all Global Compact non-business participants, who are asked to submit a Communication on Engagement with a description of practical actions they taken to support Global Compact initiative.

The United Nations Global Compact is the world’s leading voluntary corporate citizenship initiative. It is a call to companies everywhere to voluntarily align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take actions in support of UN goals, including the Millennium Development Goals. Endorsed by chief executives, the UN Global Compact is a leadership platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible corporate policies and practices. Thus, the private sector in partnership with other forces can contribute to giving “a human face” to the global market.
