/19.08.2015/: The meeting titled “The current state and prospects of development of corporate social responsibility mechanisms in Kyrgyzstan”

The UN office in Kyrgyz Republic, UN Development Programme, the Agency of Corporate Development “CSR Central Asia”, MDS Committee participated in a one-day workshop meeting titled “The current state and prospects of development of corporate social responsibility mechanisms in Kyrgyzstan”.

Note: The meeting initiated implementation of the project “Involvement of stakeholders in the process of sustainable development based on the principles of the UN Global compact” (2015). The need for establishing clear project objectives can help to create better conditions for an effective dialogue with stakeholders to be involved in the systematic developmental process of CSR principles in the context of UN Global Compact.  The workshop also aimed to showcase some of the best practices and lessons learnt from specific joint initiatives and also how private sector can collaborate with communities. A conference is planned on September 2015, entitled “Business and Sustainable Development”.

Time: 14.00-17.00

Goals of meeting:

– Capacity building and consideration of CSR as an effective tool of creating favorable environment for achieving sustainable development in the Kyrgyz Republic;

– Getting feedback from experts in the field of sustainable development and exchange of information and experience;

– Discussing efforts on the implementation of CSR mechanisms taken by IBC Committee on Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility.


Agenda of the meeting:

  1. CSR: International standards and the countries’ experience. Agenda for the business community in KR. The current state and prospects discussion in the field of CSR (on the base of dialogue platform with experts, held in 2014)
  2. The Global Compact as a platform for dialogue
  3. Presentation of UNDP initiative “Zhashyl Aiyl”
  4. Presentation of future CSR initiatives on (1) labor safety, (2) environmental protection, (3) business participation in territories development, (4) corruption.

Committee on Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility International Business Council

International business Council (IBC) is a business association; It has a wide range of local and international businesses in membership who have created thousands of jobs. The MDS Committee on SD and CSR was created to make a contribution to Kyrgyz Republic’ investment climate by helping business community with large public segment and stakeholder groups to resolve business issues on social, environmental, economic issues and to strengthen  the recognition of Kyrgyz business companies in the developmental process of country.[3]

Mission: The IBC’s mission is to engage in political advocacy. The IBC promotes common interests of business investors and provides members with relevant information and advice to support their business operations in the Kyrgyz Republic. When businesses band together, they achieve more than they could on their own.
