/2017/ GUIDEBOOK FOR CONFLICT MANAGEMENT IN MINING INDUSTRY OF THE KYRGYZ REPUBLIC

This Guidebook is intended to assist companies, investors, state and local authorities, and international agencies to prevent and manage potential conflicts related to the Kyrgyz mining industry.

In 2011, there was an upsurge in conflict between mining companies and local communities in Kyrgyzstan. In response, in 2012, the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA) commissioned research to understand the causes of conflict in mining districts throughout Kyrgyzstan. /2017/ PRACTICAL GUIDELINES FOR MINING COUNTRIES “ESTABLISHING GOOD COMMUNITY RELATIONS”
The guidelines have been developed by the request of German Development Cooperation (GIZ) to provide practical advice on how to establish good community – company relations in Kyrgyzstan and pay respect to the challenges in this country. The information provided is of a general nature and not all challenges and recommendations will fit to every company or community, as every company and every community has different needs and goals. Guidelines are authored by Tobias Baumeister and Iskandar Qonunov.

The following chapters will explain the concept of SLO ‘social license to operate’, why it is important for the extractive industry, what are main strategies to build up and maintain good community relationships, common mistakes and examples from mining projects on international basis. Later on specialties regarding community relations in Kyrgyzstan are explained.  Read more..

/2017/ NEW STUDY PINPOINTS AREAS OF REFORM FOR KYRGYZ REPUBLIC MINING SECTOR

NRGI developed a high-level analysis of the country’s mineral resources governance, available in English and Russian. It employs Natural Resource Charter-based global best practices to help the country face challenges that mineral resources present and draw on accumulated experience to avoid pitfalls. Read more..

/2016/ REPORT ON LOCAL CONTENT DEVELOPMENT IN MINING. OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN THE KYRGYZ REPUBLIC
This report was prepared at the request of German Development Cooperation (GIZ) as part of their Mineral Resources for Development program to support the development of local content in the Kyrgyz mining sector. Since 2015, GIZ has been implementing this program in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan with the aim of bringing economic benefits through sustainable mining of raw materials. /2014/ “ASSESSING CAPACITY OF BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS IN KYRGYZSTAN TO PROMOTE CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY”
The study was conducted as part of the project “Business associations of Kyrgyzstan as providers of corporate social responsibility” implemented by the CSR Central Asia with funding from USAID-supported REFORMA project. The study focused on obstacles and prospects of CSR development in Kyrgyzstan, as well trends in the development and understanding of CSR practices in business associations of Kyrgyzstan. The review was prepared by CSR Central Asia Corporate Development Agency for UNDP Socio-Economic Cluster. The objectives of the study included review of the situation in Kyrgyzstan and possibilities for implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) mechanisms, and identification of current trends and prospects for localizing CSR processes. /2011/ BOOK “MASTERING CSR: SIMPLE EXPLANATION OF COMPLEX CONCEPTS”

The book was published in Ukraine in 2010. In 2011, it was adapted, republished and presented to the business community of Central Asia by CSR Central Asia as part of the “CSR Week in Kyrgyzstan” in 2011. In 2013, it was reprinted and presented as part of “CSR Week in Kazakhstan.” Reprinted book contains CSR case studies and examples from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

/2001/ PUBLICATION “GUIDELINES ON OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS”
